Ohio Medicaid Announces Go-Live for Next Generation Managed Care 

September 6, 2021 – Ohio Medicaid announced that July 1, 2022 is the projected date on which managed care members will begin receiving services from one of the seven next generation managed care plans, including the Single Pharmacy Benefit Manager (SPBM), Provider Network Management (PNM) module, Centralized Credentialing, and Fiscal Intermediary.

MIPS Performance Feedback, Final Scores, & Adjusted Information

August 23, 2021 - CMS recently made us aware that certain MIPS participant scores for 2020 were inadvertently miscalculated due to a technical issue. CMS is recalculating all scores to ensure their accuracy and plans to update both the 2020 scores and related 2022 payment adjustment information in the next few weeks. CMS also informed that the deadline to submit an appeal, or targeted review request, would also be extended.

Open Notes in Healthcare: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the Cures Act

August 2, 2021 - On April 5, 2021, a requirement of the 21st Century Cures Act went into effect: Patients must be able to access information in their EHRs “without delay.” (This requirement does not apply to paper records.) The Cures Act prohibition against information blocking, often referred to as an “open notes” provision, provides patients with transparency in the outcomes of their healthcare via convenient access to information in their EHR, which can positively or negatively impact the patient-doctor relationship.

Ohio to Enter into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact

July 13, 2021 - Senate Bill 6, signed into law by Governor DeWine on June 29, 2021, authorizes the State Medical Board of Ohio to enter into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Ohio becomes the 35th state to become a member of the Compact. Physicians from any state with Compact membership, including Ohio, who meet the qualifications will be eligible for licensure in any other participating state. OSMA Insurance Agency Announces 2019 Average Rate Renewal of only 2.9 Percent

Physician practices participating in the OSMA’s Health Benefits Plan (HBP) will see another year of rate increases averaging single digits. Renewal increases for 2019 will average 2.9%. This increase, along with plan increases over the past three years, show a four-year average of 4.5%. Significantly below the national averages.

Medical Board—Important News!

June 2, 2021 - Effective May 31, 2021, MDs, DOs and DPMs will be required to complete one hour of Continuing Medical Education (CME) prior to renewal on the topic of a licensee’s duty to report misconduct under section 4731.224 of the Revised Code. Open Notes in Healthcare: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the Cures Act

August 2, 2021 - On April 5, 2021, a requirement of the 21st Century Cures Act went into effect: Patients must be able to access information in their EHRs “without delay.” (This requirement does not apply to paper records.) The Cures Act prohibition against information blocking, often referred to as an “open notes” provision, provides patients with transparency in the outcomes of their healthcare via convenient access to information in their EHR, which can positively or negatively impact the patient-doctor relationship.

Ohio to Enter into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact

July 13, 2021 - Senate Bill 6, signed into law by Governor DeWine on June 29, 2021, authorizes the State Medical Board of Ohio to enter into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. State Budget Update: Governor DeWine Signs 2-Year Budget Bill into Law, Issues Line-Item Vetoes

July 1, 2021 - The Conference Committee finalized the state budget plan based on the contents of the bills passed in each legislative chamber, and the legislature approved the bill just short of their June 30 deadline. Medicaid Managed Care Plans Increase Payment for COVID Vaccine

June 24, 2021 - The Medicaid and MyCare plans have had discussions with providers on how to increase vaccinated Medicaid recipients, and what their offices need to be effective. Many of our members provide daily patient care to Ohio’s Medicaid population and thus are uniquely qualified to provide meaningful information to assist the Ohio Department of Medicaid in its upcoming competitive Medicaid managed care procurement process. The comments we received from our members generally centered on areas where improvement is most desired, including plan accountability, grievances and appeals, provider support, benefits and delivery, and care coordination and management.

MIPS Performance Feedback, Final Scores, & Adjusted Information

August 23, 2021 - CMS recently made us aware that certain MIPS participant scores for 2020 were inadvertently miscalculated due to a technical issue. CMS is recalculating all scores to ensure their accuracy and plans to update both the 2020 scores and related 2022 payment adjustment information in the next few weeks. CMS also informed that the deadline to submit an appeal, or targeted review request, would also be extended.

Open Notes in Healthcare: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the Cures Act

August 2, 2021 - On April 5, 2021, a requirement of the 21st Century Cures Act went into effect: Patients must be able to access information in their EHRs “without delay.” (This requirement does not apply to paper records.) The Cures Act prohibition against information blocking, often referred to as an “open notes” provision, provides patients with transparency in the outcomes of their healthcare via convenient access to information in their EHR, which can positively or negatively impact the patient-doctor relationship.

Ohio to Enter into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact

July 13, 2021 - Senate Bill 6, signed into law by Governor DeWine on June 29, 2021, authorizes the State Medical Board of Ohio to enter into the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Ohio becomes the 35th state to become a member of the Compact. Physicians from any state with Compact membership, including Ohio, who meet the qualifications will be eligible for licensure in any other participating state. State Budget Update: Governor DeWine Signs 2-Year Budget Bill into Law, Issues Line-Item Vetoes

July 1, 2021 - The Conference Committee finalized the state budget plan based on the contents of the bills passed in each legislative chamber, and the legislature approved the bill just short of their June 30 deadline. Allowable Charges for Copying Medical Records

June 1, 2021 - 2021 Update: The Ohio Department of Health is required on an annual basis to use the Consumer Price Index to determine the amount of increase or decrease in costs for providing medical records. The increase for 2021 is a 1.23% increase from 2020.

June 2, 2021 - Effective May 31, 2021, MDs, DOs and DPMs will be required to complete one hour of Continuing Medical Education (CME) prior to renewal on the topic of a licensee’s duty to report misconduct under section 4731.224 of the Revised Code. October 6, 2020 – Last week, as part of the short-term spending bill passed by Congress, several changes were made to the Accelerated and Advanced Payment program. The changes relax many of the terms of repayment for physicians that took advantage of the program in March.

OSMA Insurance Agency Announces 2019 Average Rate Renewal of only 2.9 Percent

Physician practices participating in the OSMA’s Health Benefits Plan (HBP) will see another year of rate increases averaging single digits. Renewal increases for 2019 will average 2.9%. This increase, along with plan increases over the past three years, show a four-year average of 4.5%. Significantly below the national averages.

Open Notes in Healthcare: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the Cures Act

August 2, 2021 - On April 5, 2021, a requirement of the 21st Century Cures Act went into effect: Patients must be able to access information in their EHRs “without delay.” (This requirement does not apply to paper records.) The Cures Act prohibition against information blocking, often referred to as an “open notes” provision, provides patients with transparency in the outcomes of their healthcare via convenient access to information in their EHR, which can positively or negatively impact the patient-doctor relationship.
